AVI-A06. CASA BLANCA AND XIQUILITE
We will leave the lodging place and depart for the West of the country to the city of Chalchuapa.
The pre-Columbian art, the modern art, history and the economy are only some of the aspects that are featured in this route.
Our destination is the Archaeological Site and Shop of Xiquilite Casa Blanca. At Casa Blanca we will also learn the process of dyeing fabrics with indigo (Xiquilite, in Náhuat language); the visitors will participate in the manufacture of some articles and will learn historical details of the product on which the economy of the country was based for almost 300 years.
First we will visit the museum of the archaeological site to see the pre-Columbian artifacts that demonstrates the knowledge of the Pipils (local Indians) of this art, the process of extraction of the colorant from the tiny leaves of the shrub of xiquilite, and its use in the weave dyeing.
Finally we will pass to the school to manufacture and dye our own fabric works. We will have lunch in a pleasant restaurant at Lake Coatepeque and then we will go back to the lodging place.

Saldremos del lugar de alojamiento hacia el occidente del país, a la ciudad de Chalchuapa. El arte precolombino, el arte moderno, la historia y la economía son solo unos de los aspectos que se conjugan en este recorrido. Nuestro destino es el Sitio Arqueológico y Escuela Taller de Xiquilite Casa Blanca. En Casa Blanca es posible conocer un poco acerca del proceso del teñido de telas con añil o índigo (Xiquilite, en lengua Náhuat); los visitantes participarán en la elaboración de algunas prendas y conocerán todos los detalles históricos y artísticos del rubro sobre el cual se basó la economía del país durante casi 300 años. Primero visitaremos el museo del sitio arqueológico para ver los vestigios precolombinos que evidencian el conocimiento de los habitantes sobre este arte, el proceso de extracción del colorante de las diminutas hojas del arbusto de xiquilite, y su empleo en el teñido de tejidos. Luego pasaremos al taller escuela para elaborar nuestras propias obras en telas que estarán a nuestra disposición o si prefiere llevar su propia prenda de vestir para elaborar el arte y proceder al teñido. Almorzaremos en un agradable restaurante a orillas del Lago Coatepeque y luego regresamos al lugar de alojamiento.
