We depart from your accommodation and head to Cerro Verde National Park, a lush natural reserve with a cool climate (54–64°F / 12–18°C) and a mystical cloud forest surrounding an extinct volcano.

Climb «The Lighthouse of the Pacific»

At 11:00 a.m., we begin the hike towards the imposing Izalco Volcano, one of the youngest volcanoes in the world, famously known as “The Lighthouse of the Pacific.” It erupted from its own magma chamber in the 18th century, rising among the cacao plantations once cultivated by the Pipil people during colonial times.

Extreme descent and technical requirements

After about a 2-hour hike, we reach the crater. Then, the real fun begins: we descend on a natural sand slide through the cloud forest. What took over an hour to climb can be descended in just 10 minutes!
